It can be tough to keep up a sparkling smile when there are so many things that work against you to discolor and dull your teeth each day (coffee, wine, soda, etc.). That’s why New York-based cosmetic dentist Dr. Irwin Smigel offers some of the most unique products and simple at home tricks to keep up a bright white smile.
Brush daily: Not just with any brush but with an electric toothbrush for a more thorough cleaning. Also, Smigel said you should buy a new toothbrush every three to four months because of the bacteria in your mouth.
Do-It-Yourself Whitening: At-home whitening can do wonders for your smile in a matter of days. Smigel recommends whitening gels for easy on-the-go whitening. he also mentioned to be careful of over-bleaching teeth with at-home products and in-office whitening at the same time.
Luscious Lips: a deep red or pretty pink pout with blue undertones will make white teeth pop. but, although we want our lip color to last, Dr. Smigel said putting Vaseline directly on teeth is actually bad for them.
Use a Tongue Scraper: Eliminating bacteria on the tongue and teeth will keep up a healthy set of chompers. Smigel recommends a tongue scraper because brushing the tongue with your toothbrush actually just spreads the bacteria around without really eliminating it.
Bite into these treats that naturally whiten teeth.
1. Orange Peel: Buff your teeth with the inside to create a brilliant shine.
2. Strawberries: Rub strawberries on your teeth to make them shine. you can also create a paste of crushed strawberries and baking soda to brush on your teeth once a week.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar: Use it to bleach the teeth. you can mix it with baking soda to make a paste and brush onto the teeth or gargle with it daily before brushing to help remove surface stains.
4. Crunchy fruits/veggies: Apples, carrots, cauliflower, celery, pears, and other crunchy fruits and vegetables help clean the teeth and prevent stains. When the natural fibers of the fruits and vegetables combine with saliva in the mouth, they help wash away food particles and stain-causing bacteria.
